The drama and speculation is over. Charlie Weis was officially fired today after five seasons as the Notre Dame head football coach. We've been hard on Ol' Charlie, but we believe that when you're a multimillionaire in a high-profile position at a high-profile school, you deserve to be criticized. The fat jokes were a bit much, but way too obvious not to take the jab.
In reality Charlie Weis is a good man and a die-hard Golden Domer. Even he realized that winning six games and losing to UCONN at home didn't live up to the expectations at Notre Dame. Coach Weis ran a clean program and recruited some great talent, but he couldn't accomplish the most important thing in big-time college football... winning.
The memory of Charlie Weis won't be all bad and he'll most likely just be remembered as #3 on the Bob Davie, Tyrone Willingham failure list. Chuck will also collect an $18 million contract buyout and he'll end up getting hired as an offensive coordinator in the NFL. Our only hope at this point is that Notre Dame gets a legitimate, proven head coach because even though we're not Notre Dame fans, college football is better when they're good.
Farewell Coach Weis. See you in the NFL next year you rich bastard!
