(Fedor Emelianenko knocks out Brett Rogers)
For the very first time, mainstream American eyes witnessed the greatest mixed martial arts fighter in the world when Fedor Emelianenko headlined CBS's Strikeforce MMA event last night. His opponent was previously unbeaten Brett "The Grim" Rogers, a native of Cabrini-Green, and the last man to knock Andrei "The Pittbull" Arlovski into another dimension. This match-up made for an exciting main event at Chicago's Sears Centre as the two heavyweights slugged it out the entire fight. In the 1st round Rogers managed to cut Fedor and the Illinois Boxing Commission is looking into what they saw...
Despite being bruised and bloodied, Emelianenko was able to knock Rogers out at 1:48 in the 2nd round. With the victory, Fedor's record remains unblemished with a total of 31 victories, however, none have come within the closed ring of the UFC Octagon. The once prominent question, "Can Fedor be beaten?" has been eclipsed by "Who would win, Fedor or Brock Lesnar?" Unfortunately for fans, Fedor's management and the UFC brass have been unable to come to an agreement, though speculation will only continue to grow if these two combatants continue to dominate their respective leagues. Come on Dana, you know that's a check you wanna' cash!
We also have to give props to the suits at CBS. Their last venture into MMA was an EliteXC event featuring Kimbo Slice, a production that was more spectacle than sport, that ended with Kimbo being knocked out by this guy(no, I'm serious, the one on the left...) in 14 seconds. The EliteXC event was successful in terms of ratings, however it was a failure overall as fight fixing speculation and the fall of the organization's main attraction eventually lead to the demise of the promotion. To see the network brass put their faith behind a legitimate fighter in a legitimate organization is a refreshing sign that MMA is dipping it's toe into the mainstream as a legitimate sport, not simply a barbarian freak show.
Now the big questions. Will Fedor ever fight in the UFC? Does Lesnar have a chance against the living legend that is Fedor Emelianenko? Will MMA ever become a mainstream sport? Let us know in the comments section below!

Dana White is missing the big picture. Never let business interfere with legacy, because thats bad business. If Dana White wants to secure his legend, then he needs to give Fedor whatever he wants. IF HE WINS, great, then Fedor secures the legend as one of the greatest
fighters whoever lived. And Dana White will make like a kagillion dollars, history will be made, the universe will become one and we can all live in enlightenment for the next millenia.

Last night I realized that Fedor really is a machine. Rogers landed some big blows but the machine waited for his spot and BOOM... game over.
