The Yankees won their record 27th World Series Championship last night defeating the Phillies 7-3. It took the Bronx Bombers 6 games to take the title from the Phills and they looked dominate throughout the series. Everything came together including clutch hitting by Jeter & Matsui, dominate starts by Sabathia & Pettitte and solid relief from Chamberlain & Rivera.
We're not haters of the "Evil Empire" because they play by the rules and spend money to win games. George Steinbrenner has bigger balls than everyone else and shelled out $96,888,368 more than the Phillies this year. The numbers are even more startling when you consider the fact that the Yankees payroll was $182,900,414 higher than the Pittsburgh Pirates who have the lowest payroll in baseball at $25,197,000. To put it another way the Yankees spent over 8 times as much as the Pirates this season.
For all of those small market fans out there who bitch about George spending money like it's 1999 we have one thing to say... if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
