Tim Donaghy was an NBA referee for 13 seasons and oversaw 772 regular season games and 20 playoff games. Donaghy resigned from the league on July 2007 before an FBI report that alleged he bet on games he officiated during his last two seasons. The report stated that he made calls during games that affected the point spread. On August 15, 2007, Donaghy pleaded guilty to two federal charges related to the investigation and was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison in July 2008. He was released on November 4, 2009 after serving out his sentence.
Donaghy's interview last night on 60 Minutes could be damning to the NBA, but having only one, rogue referee probably won't hurt the league's image too much. However, if you remember the entire MLB steroid saga started with one, rogue, unreliable source named Jose Canseco... and Jose ended up being the only person telling the truth.
