All the Vikings had to do last night was get a win against the lowly Bears and they would guarantee themselves home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. Chicago was 5-9 entering last nights game including 2 losses in a row to the Packers and Ravens. The Bears overrated and over-paid quarterback, Jay Cutler, has 26 interceptions this season and a passer rating of 73.6. Compare that to Brett Favre who has only thrown 7 touchdowns and has a passer rating so far this year of 104.3. On paper it appeared Minnesota was the better team with more to play for, so what happened last night?
First of all, Cutler played better last night than he has most of the year, but he still made several dumb-ass mistakes, including costly turnovers. Minnesota looked flat all game until the end when they realized, "Shit, we need to start trying so we can win this game." If you're a Bears fan you can't be too happy that the Vikings were able to storm back and force overtime. If you're a Vikings fan you're pissed they lost and your playoff tickets are worthless. If you're a fan of any other playoff team in the NFC you're thrilled.
WIth the loss, Minnesota loses home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, which is a huge loss. Additionally the Vikings have been in turmoil over the past week with the rift between Favre and Childress. Everybody remembers the Drama King (Favre) arguing with his coach in Carolina last week. That conflict created a fissure in Minnesota that turned into a full crack last night. Losing is like a virus and the strand in Minnesota is getting worse. Disagreement and losing are not a good formula for entering the playoffs.
Because of the Drama King and Minnesota's late season, losing ways, we anticipate the Vikings getting knocked out of the playoffs much earlier than anticipated. They will be one win and done. You heard it here first.
